Points salvaged for Team Shredded Wheat Racing after Silverstone showdown

This weekend’s round of the 2019 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship at the 1.64-mile Silverstone track saw another energetic roller coaster of results for the mountune-powered Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher squad, in what was the penultimate round of the season.

Saturday’s qualifying session saw Chilton start Round 25 on softs in P11 and even through the unpredictable weather, he managed to climb the grid rounding out race 1 with a solid top 10 finish. In a turn of events, following contact from Jordan's West Surrey Racing BMW, penalties were handed out, resulting in Chilton's finishing position being altered to P9.

Moving over to the medium tyre for a wet and what concluded to be, dramatic Race 2, the optimistic hopes of finishing in the top 5 faded quickly after Chilton collected some debris from the track which resulted in him pitting on lap 8 due to the cooling pack being blocked and subsequently causing the engine to overheat. Re-joining at the back of the grid for the reminder of the race saw the #3 Focus RS cross the line in P20, missing out on the reverse grid draw for the preceding run.

Round 27, the final race of the weekend did not disappoint the team nor the fans. Starting on slicks before the rain returned, Race 3 was very much a game of strategic chess with Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher, on Chilton’s recommendation deciding to switch the #3 Focus RS to wet’s on lap 5 as conditions worsened and the rain fell hard. Starting the final heat in 20thposition, Chilton once again showed his skill behind the wheel of the mountune-powered RS as he climbed the grid on every lap, expertly making his way through the pack to claim an unexpected P5 at the finish.

Jackson drove excellently all weekend, but was very much caught up in other people’s incidents. He made great progress to climb up to P5 in the final race of the day and was looking good for a solid haul of points, but couldn't risk the same strategy as Chilton to swap to wets and stayed out on slicks; as the weather turned worse it simply became a waiting game as the majority of the pack, who had also since swapped to wets under a safety car, came charging through the the pack, demoting Jackson to P19 at the chequered flag.

The standing positions remain the same after this weekend's run with Chilton in 10th in the Drivers Standings, 3rd in the Independent Drivers' and Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher 3rd in the Independent Teams' table.

The mountune-powered Focus RS' and Motorbase crew head to their home circuit for the season finale of the 2019 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship in two weeks’ time, on October 12th/13th. We’re very much looking forward to seeing them back in action!
